Atiku Backs Ighodalo for Edo Gubernatorial Election, Urges Unity Among PDP Members

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has thrown his support behind Asue Ighodalo as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Edo State election.

Atiku congratulated Ighodalo on his victory in the primary election and emphasized the importance of a united front within the PDP.

He praised Ighodalo as a “round peg in a round hole” and a “thoroughbred technocrat” who can steer Edo State’s affairs on stable waters.

However, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has also claimed victory in a parallel primary and vowed to challenge the party’s decision in court.

Despite this, the PDP leadership has given Ighodalo a Certificate of Return.

In his statement, Atiku urged all other aspirants and aggrieved stakeholders to reconcile and negotiate to ensure that Edo remains a PDP state.

He believes that the current hardship and poverty experienced by Nigerians under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should motivate every PDP member to work together for the party’s interest.

As the Edo gubernatorial election approaches, the focus is now on whether the PDP can maintain unity and rally around Ighodalo as their candidate.
