Armed Men Attempt to Breach Oyo State Government Secretariat: Heavy Security Presence and Traffic Diversion Ensue

Armed men attempted to breach the Oyo State Government Secretariat early Saturday, targeting the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly complex.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear as the secretariat was on break and largely deserted at the time of the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the armed intruders, dressed in military camouflage and with their faces covered by masks and scarfs, arrived at the secretariat in buses, potentially indicating an organized effort.

It took the combined efforts of the police, operatives of the South-West Security Network, known as Amotekun, and other security reinforcements to repel the attackers.

Gunshots were heard as security agents engaged the suspected hoodlums.

In response to the situation, a heavy deployment of security operatives, including soldiers, has taken over the area, barricading all entry and exit points to the secretariat.

Traffic has been diverted away from the scene, causing significant disruption in the area. It is not yet known if any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

At the time of writing, neither the Oyo State Government nor the police authorities have issued a statement regarding the attack.

The situation remains tense as the investigation into the motives and identities of the armed intruders is ongoing.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Nigeria and the need for increased vigilance and coordination among security agencies to protect public institutions and ensure the safety of citizens.
