Rauf Aregbesola, the national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has insisted he owned no personal residence during his eight years leading Osun State. He made the declaration while addressing supporters in a video posted online on Thursday.
The former governor claimed he rented accommodation in the Amuta neighbourhood of Ilesa throughout his tenure. "I'm the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own," he said.
He challenged anyone with evidence to the contrary to come forward. "Whoever says what I'm saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own," he added.
Aregbesola ran Osun from 2010 to 2018, later serving as interior minister under former president Muhammadu Buhari. He now leads the ADC's governorship campaign in the state, following the party's campaign launch in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.
