Another Chibok Girl Rescued: Lydia Simon Reunited with Family After 10 Years of Captivity

Another young woman, Lydia Simon, has been reunited with her family after spending nearly 10 years in captivity.

Lydia, who was on serial number 68 among the missing girls, was rescued by troops of Operation Desert Sanity III, North East Operation Hadin Kai, in Borno State.

Her rescue comes just days after the 10-year anniversary of the infamous kidnapping of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram.

Lydia, who was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue, managed to escape from the camp of Ali Ngulde in Mandara Mountain, where she had been held for several years.

She surrendered to the troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion at Ngoshe in Gwoza LGA, claiming to be from Pemi Town in Chibok.

The rescue operation was carried out by the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division Task Force Battalion, which has been actively involved in efforts to combat Boko Haram and rescue the abducted girls.

Lydia’s escape and subsequent rescue is a testament to the resilience of the Chibok girls and the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military to secure their release.

The kidnapping of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram in 2014 sparked international outrage and brought attention to the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the northeastern region.

Since then, the Nigerian government, in collaboration with international partners, has been working to rescue the remaining abducted girls and provide support to those who have been released or have managed to escape.

The rescue of Lydia Simon is a glimmer of hope in the ongoing struggle against school kidnappings and the broader issue of insecurity in Nigeria.

As the nation continues to grapple with these challenges, the successful rescue operations serve as a reminder of the importance of resilience and the commitment of the Nigerian military to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls and other abductees.
