ADF Advocates for Reconstitution, Renegotiated Nigeria Federation and Regional Autonomy

The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) has voiced its support for the reconstitution and renegotiation of the Nigeria federation to establish a new people’s constitution that promotes self-determination for various states, segments, and regions within the country.

The ADF believes that the current chaotic nature of the Nigerian federation is the root cause of the ongoing terrorism, banditry, and violence that has significantly impacted the quality of life in Nigeria.

The foundation has called for a return to regional autonomy and fiscal federalism as the only solution to resolving the problems plaguing the crisis-ridden Nigerian federation.

They have also suggested that the country revert to the 1963 Regional Constitution, which was agreed upon by Nigeria’s founding fathers.

The ADF has expressed its readiness to monitor the developmental engagements of the governments in the Southeast and Delta/Rivers axis to ensure that political and administrative leaders in Igboland are held accountable for their actions and provide transparent accounts of their stewardship to the people of the region.

In addition, the group has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to undertake serious electoral reforms and reform of the judicial system in Nigeria.

They believe that these measures are necessary to prevent political anarchy and restore citizens’ confidence in the democratic process.

The ADF has also emphasized the importance of Nnamdi Kanu’s release, stating that his continued incarceration is a violation of his fundamental rights to self-expression.

They argue that the Federal Government’s willingness to release and reintegrate those who have taken up arms against the state, while keeping Kanu imprisoned, is an affront to social justice.

As the debate on Nigeria’s future continues, the ADF’s call for a more equitable federal structure based on social justice, regional autonomy, and fiscal federalism is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the Nigerian federation and promoting a more stable and prosperous future for all its citizens.
