Abia State Ex-Governor Ikpeazu Denies Receiving Pension After Law Repeal

The immediate past Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has refuted claims that he is receiving a pension from the state government.

The statement, issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Onyebuchi Ememanka, comes in response to the Abia State House of Assembly’s decision to repeal the 2001 Law, under which former governors and deputy governors were paid pensions.

Ikpeazu has clarified that since he handed over power as Governor of Abia State on May 29, 2023, he has neither requested nor received any money from the state government under any guise whatsoever.

Furthermore, the former Abia governor has asserted that he had no intentions of doing so and described the reports of him receiving a pension as “mischievous and needless media sensationalism.”

The former governor has since moved on with his life and is currently engaged in other areas of interest to him.

He also advised the state government to focus on the business of governance and to avoid engaging in unnecessary media attention.

This development has sparked discussions on the need for transparency and accountability in governance, as well as the importance of responsible reporting by media outlets.

As Abia State continues to navigate its political landscape, it remains to be seen how these events will shape the future of the region.
