Reps to begin sectoral consideration on 2024 budget after second reading

The House of Representatives has announced that it will soon start sectoral discussion and review of the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, who said the house committee on appropriations has made public the sectoral distributions for proper examination.

Remember that the budget passed a second reading in the house on Friday after two days of deliberation?

President Bola Tinubu submitted the 2024 budget proposal to the lawmakers on Wednesday.

Rotimi said the bill has begun to receive legislative attention.

He said: “On Saturday, December 2, 2023, more legislative actions would be carried out, including a briefing by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, to instruct the leadership of all House Standing Committees on the standardised process of examination and review of the budget proposal, as well as the process of interacting with the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies for budget justification.

“The House Committee on Appropriations has also released the sectoral allocations for proper examination.

“In accordance with our legislative agenda, the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives is determined to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and comprehensive process of budget consideration.
