It would be recalled that following the massive protest by residents of Sapele over the epileptics power supply in the town which has worsen economic meltdown leading to many businesses relocating and closing down, leaving many residents jobless.<\/p>\n
In order to avoid to breakdown of law and order, the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa called for a stakeholders meeting to Asaba on Monday to resolve the issues.<\/p>\n
At the meeting Rev. Fr. Chris Ekabor demanded for at least 12 hours to 18 hours electricity supply to Sapele, adding that anything short of that will not be good for the people.<\/p>\n
He noted the era of estimated billing should be done with and that Prepaid meters should be made available to curb further collection of money by staffers of BEDC. Stressing that load shading should be done in a proper balancing.<\/p>\n
He urged BEDC to make a formal and public apology for its actions, adding that it amounts to great injustice to deny a man who has paid his bill power supply because of BEDC inefficiency and inability to collect its revenue.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the outcome of the stakeholders meeting, Chief Felix Anirah, a former chairman of Sapele local government area, stated that from the information available at the meeting, by the GENCO and TCN, they accused BEDC of not buying sufficient power units.<\/p>\n
He noted that BEDC should be mindful that they can be sued for damages for denying Sapele resident who have legitimately paid their bill of power supply because of BEDC poor revenue drive strategies.
