Facts have emerged on how the gallantry efforts of men of the 63 battalions, Nigeria Army and vigilante in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, on Friday led to the rescue of four persons allegedly kidnapped by suspected Fulani Herdsmen along East-West road by Uwviamughe in a duel that lasted for hours.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists in Ughelli, the Senior Assistant to Delta State Governor on security, who also doubles as vigilante commandant, Mr Monday Ohwesiri said on Thursday 12th November 2020, Fulani herdsmen blocked the East-West road at Uwviamughe and shoot sporadically at vehicles plying the road and no fewer than four persons were kidnapped by Fulani Herdsmen.<\/p>\n

Speaking further he said on Friday 13th November 2020 the vigilante groups in Ughelli received a distressed call from Ododegho community of perceived kidnapping activities in their community bush that prompt them swing into action.<\/p>\n

“We received a distressed call from the chairman of Ododegho community informing the security outfit of perceived kidnapping activities in their community bush, I immediately contact the special tactical squad unit of Nigeria Army deployed to the council area to fight kidnapping and related criminal activities in the Ughelli North.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“While combing the forest, the kidnappers sighted us from a distance and open fire at us and two members of the Vigilante were badly injured.”<\/p>\n

According to him, the Nigeria Army team led by Captain Joel from 63 Battalion ensured that the victims of Thursday kidnapping were rescued unhurt.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Speaking also the publicity secretary of Delta State vigilante group, Evangelist Lucky Akeni described the rescued mission as a war-like theatre as the kidnappers numbering about eight were carrying AK47 with bags of ammunition.<\/p>\n

“It took the divine intervention of God and the Nigeria Army to rescue the victims from their captor\u2019s den.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Ododegho forest can be best described as Sambisa forest of Delta State”, he added.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They, therefore, called on the State and Federal government to provide logistics to the local security outfit to enable them to check the crime rate.<\/p>\n
