The Legislative Arm of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state has impeached its leader, Hon. Samson December Saromare for alleged gross misconduct and financial misappropriation, just as Hon. Sunday Apah emerges the new leader of the Legislative House.

The impeachment notice/resolution which was signed by 14 members of the legislative house including the deputy leader stated that it was due to the incompetence and gross misconduct of the former house leader right from inception that brought about the action.

The impeachment letter which was read by the clerk of the house, Mr. Julius Ogudu during the seating which was attended by 17 legislators including the impeached leader, Hon. Samson December Saromare, read in part:

“We the undersigned councilors have noticed with dismay that the Ughelli South Legislative Arm had been bedeviled with maladministration by the Leader, Hon. Samson December Saromare since inception to date, ranging from inefficiency, gross financial misconduct, inability to pilot the affairs of the house and among others.

“It is no longer news to constituents across the 20 DISIEC constituencies that made up the Ughelli South Legislative Arm that the legislative house had their last seating for over six months ago due to the inability of the leader to pilot the affairs of the Legislative House since inception which has led to several litigations and arrests, and these negates section 46(1) and (3) of the Delta State Local Government Law Book, 2013 as amended.”

According to the statement, the former leader of the house who presided over his own impeachment, stated that with 14 members signing his impeachment which is the 2/3 majority as required by law for impeachment, “I won’t wait for further motions, I hereby leave the seat for another leader to be elected because it is clear that the house no longer want me to lead”.

Thereafter, the deputy leader was immediately directed to assume duty for the election of a new leader. Hon. Sunday Apah of Jeremi Ward 3and Hon. Kenneth Fovie of Jeremi Ward 1 where nominated for election but Hon. Kenneth Fovie declined his nomination and consequently, Hon. Sunday Apah was returned unopposed as the new Leader of Ughelli South legislative Arm.
The new leader, Hon. Sunday Apah in a chat with newsmen said his emergence as leader of Ughelli South Legislative House would witness unity and progress in the council, adding that all the councilors will be carried along on issues affecting the legislative house.

When contacted, the ousted leader, Hon Samson December Saromare said, “I am not in good mood to talk now, saying; I am in a meeting.”
