Those celebrating alleged Ibguya’s reinstatement are gullible- Nwankego

A Peoples Democratic Party, youth leader in Sapele, Comrade Sunny Nwankego has described those celebrating alleged reinstatement of Chief Monday Igbuya, as Speaker, Delta House of Assembly as not gullible but naive about the working of the house.

 

The youth leader stated this at Sapele today saying that they heard that “some misguided and ill-informed supporters of the oust Speaker were celebrating last night at his hotel alleging that former speaker has been reinstated.”

 

“To tell you how gullible they are, they failed to know that Igbuya was impeached and suspended for three months and since then the house has not sat; so where and when did members sit to lift Igbuya’s suspension and reinstate him as speaker?

 

“Let them continue in their self delusion, Igbuya is gone and today we going to receive our new Speaker Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

 

“To us in Sapele the impeachment of the former Speaker, gift of the governor Okowa’s second year anniversary, it’s a good radiance to bad rubbish.”

 

According to him, the former speaker in the past two years in office has failed to bring the needed leadership dynamism to the legislative arm of government thereby making the house to remain dormant.

 

“Igbuya is not fit to be a speaker of the House of Assembly of a state like Delta, for crying out loud, the man in the past two years has not shown in character as a man that can lead the house to complement the effort of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to deliver on his SMART agenda.

 

“He has displayed gross incompetence,  the impact of the house is not felt in the state, so, I think his impeachment is coming at the right time and it’s a good radiance to bad rubbish,” he added.

 

A chieftain of the PDP in Sapele, a former commissioner who spoke to us but pleaded for anonymity, stated that the impeachment of Igbuya marks the freedom of the long-suffering Sapele people who have endured the pharaoh like political leadership of the former speaker in the past 18 years.

 

According to him, “God has began the work of freeing Sapele people from the political bondage that one man has kept them in the past 18 years, some of us will go to Church to give thanks to God.

 

“It is very suffocating been a politician in Sapele, unless you have to become a slave to Igbuya.

 

“Our God is not asleep and the pharaoh has fallen, and I bet you, this will mark his end politically,” he stated.

 

Igbuya was sacked at about 7am last week by 22 out of 29 members of the house at plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Osanebi Ossai Friday following a motion moved by Hon. Johnson Erijo (Isoko South II) and seconded by Hon. Peter Onwusanya (Oshimili South).

 

His impeachment according to the lawmakers is predicated on alleged incompetence, highhandedness and unacceptable leadership style of the speaker which has alienated them from the governor.

 

According Erijo the removal of Igbuya became necessary in order to move the assembly forward, adding that to do that a new speaker was needed as the legislature was key to the growth of democracy and development of the state.

 

The member thereafter handed three months suspension to Igbuya, who represents Sapele constituency, and replaced him  with Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, of Okpe constituency.
