Suspected cultists kill one, injure many others, as rival cult groups clash in Sapele

There is palpable tension in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Council,  Delta State, as suspected cultists went on rampage killing of one person, while many others were left with life-threatening injuries.

ADVOCATE gathered that the cult war started last week between to rival cult group, Baggar and Aiye confraternity in supremacy battle on who hold sway in the timer town.

It was further gathered that the supremacy war started with a cult leader demanding for cash from a rival cult member in what they call ‘protection money.’

“And when the rival cult member refused to pay, we learnt he was badly bruised and that angered members of his cult group who attacked in retaliation” the source who craved anonymity said.

At Irato road, where the only death was recorded, a source who simply identify herself as Suzzy told our correspondent that, Tega, (the deceased) was chased from the New road area of the town, down to Irato road; “it was close to Richard Continental hotel that they finally caught up with and he was killed.”

She said the cultists operated freely in the Vitaform area of Amukpe, where gunshots rained on Tuesday night till the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Another eyewitness who begged his name not to be in print said on Wednesday night, some of the cultists stormed Oriaki road, chasing a man down the street to Christmas road junction and several persons were injured.

The source added: “As I speak to you, there is tension and fear has enveloped places like Amukpe and some other places because you do not know when the boys would strike. “

Our correspondent who visited Irato road last night (Wednesday) there was still splashes of blood on the scene where Tega( the deceased)was said to have been killed, with residents speaking about it, in hush tunes.

Attempt to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowakpoyeya was not successful as her mobile no was not connecting.
