——–By Shedrack Onitsha———

An APC leader in Ughelli in Delta State, Evangelist Felix Ogbajini has urged the Urhobo nation to break the jinx of a single term in the Senate, by supporting Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, for a second term.

Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District .

While calling on the Urhobo people to support the re-election of Sen. Omo-Agege come 2019, Ogbajini decried what he consider to have become a norm since the dawn of the present democratic era in 1999, where no senator from the district served a second term, noting that this trend must change.

The Orogun-born politician told newsmen during an interactive chat recently, that Omo-Agege deserved to be returned to the Senate, as he proven himself to be a trustworthy ambassador of Urhobo Nation who not only has the experience but possesses the intellectual powers to stir the Senate to formulate laws and policies that would benefit Urhobo people and develop Urhobo land.

According to him, Senator Omo-Agege within the first three months of being sworn-in as a Senator was able to sponsor a bill for a law to back the Federal University of Petroleum Technology, Ugbomro, which was speedily considered, passed by the Senate and duly accented by the executive, thereby making the institution secure the legislative backing that was lacking.

Ogbajini further emphasised that because of Barr. Omo-Agege’s sagacity, he has been made a member of several committees in the Senate including the Senate Committee on Appropriation, adding that such rare feat could only be achieved by a representative who knows his onions and is wholly accepted by his colleagues.

He also stated that it was time Urhobo considers how to be integrated more into the national polity in order to assume its pride of place as the fifth-largest ethnic nationality, stressing can only be achieved by consolidating on the current achievements of Sen. Omo-Agege through his re-election and having a ranking senator.

He declared that the Senate position should not be seen as an office to compensate Local Government Areas on rotational basis, nor is it to be used to empower individuals at the whims and caprices of political parties but a very high position of service not only to Urhobo but the entire Nigerian nation, which he said requires that the very best politicians are projected, supported and sustained in office to attain the enviable position that Urhobo desires at the national level.

While lamenting the lack of any Urhobo Senator holding any key principal positions in the Senate despite being Nigeria’s fifth-largest ethnic since 1999, Ogbajini said the basic pre-requisite to attaining the envious height of holding key positions in the National Assembly remains the sustenance of a worthy representative in the National Assembly, where the nation’s fate and that of all the ethnic nationalities are being decided and dividends of democracy appropriated.

He said Sen. Omo-Agege has proven himself to be that politician that Urhobo can sustain at the national level to be able to acquire the relevant positions that are necessary to strategically position the Urhobo Ethnic nationality and attract its fair share of the dividends of democracy, which includes infrastructure and human capital development, home.

Ogbajini argued that the achievements of Sen. Omo-Agege within the short period of time he has been in the Senate so far has surpassed even those who ran their full tenure of four years, adding that it goes to show that if returned back to the Senate in 2019, he would secure more tangible principal positions as well as attract more dividends of democracy for Urhobo to enjoy.

Beside the good representation of his Urhobo people, Ogbajini said Sen. Omo-Agege has also proven himself to be a politician with a large heart and passionate interest in the all-round development of Nigeria, as exemplified in the bills, motions and qualities of his vibrant contributions to debates on the floor of the hallowed Chambers.

He added these attributes has made the leadership of the Senate to saddle him with the enormous tasks as he has been appointed in so many committees even though he is not only a first timer, but one who entered the Senate a whole seven months after its inauguration.

He therefore, called on the people of Delta Central to rally round and support Sen. Omo-Agege for the continuation of his good, brilliant and effective representation beyond 2019, even as he assured that there are a lot of good things that the Senator have in stock for his people in particular and Nigerians in general.
