Security Architecture: Army seeks support to build barrack

… As Koko Community pledges to provide land

By: Ochuko Etabunor,

As part of efforts to contribute to the security architecture of Delta State, the Nigeria Army recently solicited land in Koko to build its barrack in Warri North Local Government Area in Delta State.

This development was contained in a request after the Army Unit, 19 Battalion, Koko, was upgraded to a full command known as 90 Amphibious Battalion, Koko, as a means of strengthening its operations in the area.

On his part, the Commanding Officer of the new Battalion, Major Joshua Ajongbo, said that the creation of the new command in Koko was one of the many innovations of the Nigeria Army, adding that the acquisition of land in Koko by the Nigeria Army to build barrack, would solve accommodation issues for the soldiers, and avail them the opportunity of having their families with them.

Similarly, the Olare-Aja of Koko, Pa. Richmond Atsenuwa, said that he would ensure the command was given a suitable land in the community, stating that the presence of an Army barracks would not only impact the social-economic life of the area but also enhance security in the area.

Atsenuwa emphasized that Koko community had, over time, enjoyed the robust relationship with the Nigeria Army, adding that Koko would always remain a home for the Army.

It should be noted that Koko community in her efforts to contribute to the security of the nation, last year provided the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps with a parcel of land to build its base and it is possible for the community to replicate the same for the Nigerian Army, Koko.
