Prominent Nigerians eulogizes Ibru, as he is laid to rest …. Settle your difference, Primate charges Ibru family

The remains of the first civilian Governor of Delta State, Olorogun (Sen) Felix Ibru were yesterday laid to rest at his county home in Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North local government area of the state with prominent Nigerians tributes and eulogizing him.Cross Section of Late Senator Felix Ibru's Family

The body of late Senator Ibru arrived at the All Saint Cathedral Anglican church in a black Mercedes Benz marked M.I.C at about 10:00am for the funeral service was escorted by policemen in ceremonial uniform.

In his sermon, at the funeral service titled The two churches”,  the Primate of the church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh urged all Nigerians to desire the church stressing that their target should not be for the glory of man but that of God which abides forever.

He also charged Christians to always be mindful where they will spend their eternity in whatever they do and used the occasion to challenge the Ibru family to avoid actions capable of causing disunity among them

The Primate while eulogizing the late Ibru, described him as a successful and great politician, community leader who rose to become a governor, senator and the president general of the Urhobo nation, Okoh said: “There comes a time when this greatness must pass away.”

He also appealed to the Ibru family to be united because Ibru is a great family in this country: “Settle your difference, this name is so great that it cannot afford to be destroyed. Those of you who are younger must be jealous of this name and those older must guard it.”

In his remark, the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa described Ibru as a man who united Deltans as a people at a time when things were rough and tough.

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa described the deceased who was a Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District and also, led the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) as “a very special man in our lives as a people and as a state, we thank God for the life of our political icon; he was a jolly good fellow.”

He said: “Delta has lost one of its best, but his good works would remain with us. His death would bring peace among the family.”

Speaking to politicians, the governor said: “Those of us that are politicians, the question is, what are you doing with your life. What we do with our lives counts alot.

In his tribute, former Delta state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan said: “Obviously, he had an eventful life during which he ran a very successful practice as an architect. He was a quintessential politician and made his mark as the first elected governor of Delta state and later senator.”

Former Military Administrator of the defunct Midwest State, Brig. Gen Samuel Ogbemudia, said: “A long page will not suffice for the shortest summary of Senator Felix Ibru’s life and the times with all the sterling achievements they encompassed.

A guard of honour was mounted by a detachment of the Nigerian Police who shot 21 gun-salute in honour of the deceased as his remains were been lowered to mother earth.

Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Deputy Governors – Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), Chief Benjamin Elue, Pa Edwin Clark, General Alex Ogomudia, Senators Ovie Omo-Agege, James Manager, Peter Nwaoboshi, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, among others attended the funeral service.
