Police shoot, arrest 3 robbery suspects in Delta

DELTA – THE Delta State police command said it has shot and arrested three suspected armed robbers while they were carrying out a robbery operation near Shell Club, Enerhen in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement yesterday, Public Relations Officer of the command, Celestina Kalu explained that the incident occurred on Sunday when a team anti-crime patrol from Enerhen division rushed to the scene having heard the sound of gunshots from the area while on routine patrol.

According to Kalu, the hoodlums on sighting the patrol team, opened fire on them and in the ensuing gun duel, three of the suspects were shot and arrested while the fourth suspect escaped.

She noted that items recovered from the suspects include two cut to size guns, seven lives cartridges, four expended cartridges and three handsets adding that the suspects are currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital Warri, while manhunt for their fleeing suspect is ongoing.

In the same vain, the command said it has recovered a Toyota Camry and a Volkswagen Vento at Onoriode close and Ogwori street, both abandoned by two different robbery gangs at Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The vehicles according to the command’s spokesman, were abandoned by the hoodlums after patrol teams cordoned all exit routes in the areas for a stop and search exercise following report of the incidents by the victims.
