Osayande was a detribalised, transparent man -Comrade Shaibu

The Zonal Organising Secretary of National Union of Electricity Employee, NUEE, Edo and Delta States and Member, State Administrative Council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Edo State, Comrade Nash Shaibu has described the late Chairman of NLC, Edo State Council, Comrade Sunny Osayande as a detribalised and transparent man who will be greatly missed.

Comrade Shaibu who made this remark while speaking to our correspondent in his office in Benin on the demise of the State Chairman said the news of the labour leader came to him as a rude shock saying that no one can question God who knows why he took him.

Comrade Shaibu who described Osayande as a jolly good fellow that will always see potential in people and bring them forth noted that during the merger of the two Unions; NLC and TUC, the late Osayande welcomed them back and gave them a sense of belonging.

” The late Sunny was a detribalised and transparent man. He sees everybody as one family which is actually what the labour slogan; ‘All for one, one for all’ stands for. He always ensures everyone is carried along as far as labour issues are concerned.

The first time I met Sunny, we were in NLC, then he was the Treasurer of the union. He was transparent and open-minded. He accounted for everything and ensured that no one is deprived of what is due to him. So I didn’t have any doubt when he emerged as the Chairman of the union in Edo. I personally saw it as a reward for hard work.

So when he assumed office he exhibited those good qualities that I knew him with. No matter the tension, Sunny would calm it down and ensure all is well. Sunny lived his life according to the ordinance of God and positively affected the lives of people. I never regret knowing him, it’s a sad moment that we lose him. He is a man of the people who would be greatly missed”.

While stressing that other labour leaders should borrow a leaf from the late Chairman, Comrade Shaibu prayed to God to accept his soul and give his labour and immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss.

” I will advise incoming labour leaders to try as much as possible when in position to carry everyone along in all labour matters because whatever position you find yourself is temporary. See how you can positively affect the lives of people and enhance their well being and further strengthen the labour movement”.
