Omo-Agege appeal to NDGJM to stop attacks on Oil installations

…..Says Urhobo’s strategic interests can’t be achieved through vengeance

The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has appealed to the new militant group that have carried out recent attack on a major oil delivery line operated by  NDPC at Ogor-Otori to stop further attack on oil installations in the nation.

 

A new militant group, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM), have claimed responsibility for the attacks on  a major oil delivery line operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) at Ogor-Oteri in Urhoboland.

 

While appealing to the group in a press statement to shun violence, Omo-Agege stated that violence hardly solves human problems in sustainable ways, adding that the true strengths of vibrant youths are best measured by their non-violent resolution of the most difficult challenges confronting our people.

 

According to the senator, “no matter the tensions or provocations, the Urhobo Nation has always found ways to guarantee the peaceful environment necessary for a stable operation of the oil and gas industry in Urhoboland, that has to continue; not violence.

 

“In order to maintain our peaceful nature and achieve our desired results, let me assure any aggrieved group of persons in Urhoboland that as their Senator I am ready to channel all their concerns directly to His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

“Where it is absolutely necessary that we work with our neighbours and friends from other ethnic nationalities, we will do so in the spirit of oneness and mutual cooperation. But be assured that your voices will be heard clearly and concerns respectfully attended to.

 

“As one who engages with Mr. President, I know he means well for our people. He deserves our best support and cooperation. I have Mr. President’s firm personal commitment to ameliorate the harsh conditions imposed on our people by years of neglect despite our huge contributions to peace and stability in the Niger Delta region and our Nation’s revenue profile.

 

He added also that, “like other ethnic groups in the Niger Delta, Urhobo’s strategic interests are unique. They cannot be realised under a common canopy of ‘vengeance’. Having been deliberately neglected and marginalised in political and economic empowerment in the recent past, we cannot accept an invitation to unleash violent vengeance against a government that prioritises our interests and listens to us. We cannot make such a mistake.

 

“We shall be convoking a broad stakeholder’s conference shortly to aggregate our people’s concerns for Mr. President’s action. More than ever before, let us embrace peace.”
