Okere Urhobo families warn against fraudulent practice on their properties

By Akpos Oghenetega,

The Olodi, Oki and Ighogbadu families of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, Warri South Local Government Area have warned against alleged fraudulent practices on their properties by some unauthorized family members who are familiar with the area.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the management committee, Hon Gabriel Eyekpimi, Secretary, Mr Mike Okumagba and Internal Auditor, Mr Temi Nikegbetse at family secretariat in Warri on Friday March 2nd, 2018.

In the statement, it was alleged that the said persons duped unwary members of the public in many ways with impunity, including the sales or reselling of land and that victims will eventually lose their monies.

The statement also alleged that the said persons process fake documents of ownership of land and consent fees, saying “Some of these dissidents were successfully prosecuted in the past by the police, but inspite of these, the practice is still rampant in the layout in recent times”

The statement therefore appealed to the general public and the law enforcement agencies especially the police to join the management committee in fighting and preventing fraud in Okumagba Layout, maintaining that the only body authorized to sell or resell land, transfer land or act on such related matters was the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Olodi, Oki and Ighogbadu families through the management committee.”

“It is our concern that members of the public are not duped by these unscrupulous and fraudulent members of our families and stranger elements,” the statement added.
