Oghara youths stage peaceful protest demanding for justice for Elliot Ofa

Oghara youths yesterday staged a protest demanding for justice over the murder of late Elliot Ofa, a councillorship candidate in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, in the March 6^th, 2021 local government election in Delta.

 

The youths numbering over 2000 storms major streets in Oghara, the country home of the former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori demanding justice for the dead.

 

Our correspondent who monitored the protest yesterday, Tuesday, reports, that the protesting youths were at the Palace of the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, the Council Secretariat and the Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Oghara singing solidarity songs.

 

The youths carrying placards with various inscriptions such as; “Who kill Elliot Ofa?”, “We need justice for Elliot Ofa”, “Stop the killing of politicians,” among others called on the authority to bring the killers of Elliot Ofa to book.

It was also gathered that, on January 26th, 2021, some suspects arrested in connection to the murder of deceased were billed to be arraigned in court at Benin, however, few minutes to the hearing, it was alleged that a call came from the office of the Assistant Inspection General of Police, AIG Zone 5 Benin demanding that the suspect be taken back to prison.

 

This development has created tension and doubt on the possibility of getting justice for the deceased following what they call “political interference” by some vested political interest in Delta State.

 

Recall that Late Elliot Ofa was travelling with some of his colleagues to Asaba, the Delta State Capital to attend the 2021 DSIEC screening of all councillorship candidates when he was killed along the Jesse- Oben roads on Monday 11th January 2021.

The youths while calling on the IGP, the Edo State Governor and his Delta State counterpart for their intervention, appealed that the law must be allowed take its full course and ensure that justice is done so that the soul of the dead can rest in peace.
