Not Too Young to Run Group frowns at attempted imposition of candidate in Edo PDP

The Not Too Young to Run Solidarity Group, Esan Central Chapter has frowned at attempts by some group of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, leaders in the state to impose candidates on Esan people in the primary elections.

This was made known in a press statement signed by the group’s Coordinator, Comrade  Godwin Aigbiremonle and made available to pressmen in Benin.

The group who stressed that PDP, is a formidable party that is highly democratically structured maintained that the Governor of the State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has made it clear that all aspirant be given opportunity to participate in the primaries.

They wondered why Esan Central leaders would want to impose candidates for Esan Central Constituency when leaders of the party at the state and national levels have said that there is no zoning and endorsement of candidates for the elections.

” We are aware that some group of PDP leaders in Edo Central with a penchant for suppressing the wishes of the people want to impose candidates on Esan people. The PDP as a party is highly democratically structured. And there are provisions for primaries in the party’s Constitution. The governor, the party Chairman and other leaders of the party both at the state and national levels has said that no zoning and endorsement of candidates. That all aspirants be given equal opportunity to go to the field.

All persons that has bought forms at the house of assembly chairmanship and councillorship positions should be allowed to participate in the primaries. Anyone that emerges will fly the party’s flag in the 2023 general elections. Let no group impose candidate for house of assembly on the good people of Esanland”.

While stating that clandestine anti democratic moves towards imposing house of assembly candidate on Esan Central Constituents would be resisted the group vowed to head to court to seek justice as the welfare of Esan Central Constituents is a priority.

” We are aggrieved and heading to court if this matter is not urgently addressed. The good people of Esan will engage the streets on a massive peaceful protest. Our rights and privileges can not be suppressed by party leaders”.
