Nigerian Army, 19 Battalion arrests two kidnap suspects terrorizing Sapele, its environs

Men of Nigerian Army, 19 Battalion, Koko, Delta State have arrested two kidnap suspects, Mr Robinson Okotie and Mr David Adogbeji, alleged members of kidnapping syndicates that has been terrorizing Sapele and its environs in recent time.

Eye wittiness told our correspondent that Okotie was arrest on Sunday, at Ugbeyiyi road junction, Sapele, Delta State, by a team of military personnel who have been on his trail following intelligence report.

A security source told ADVOCATE that Okotie later led the Army to teachers’ road off Shell road Sapele, to arrest Mr. David Adogbeji one of his gang member that came to town with him, with intent to kidnap another victim.

Our source, who pleaded for anonymity, stated further that Okotie confessed to be a member of a kidnap syndicate that have been terrorizing the area and that their gang was behind the recent kidnapping in of a woman at Amukpe Sapele which led to the killing of two soldiers.

Okotie also allegedly confessed that he is a member of one Agustin Gbangbara kidnapping/militant group terrorizing the Benin River, kidnapping oil workers and vandalizing oil facilities in the area.

Recall that after the kidnap of a woman in Amukpe in Sapele, the gang killed two soldiers on a routine patrol along Ovoh Creek who accosted them over their suspicious movement.

Okotie also led the Army to the kidnapping den around Akpalakpa behind Abigborodo community, in Warri North local government area of Delta State.

However, on getting to the creek, the army were ambushed, the cross fire ensued left several kidnapers dead, others escaping with various degree of injuries and an army officer also sustained injury and is said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Other members of the gang are on the run on hearing the arrest of their members as security agencies are on the trial other gang members that have gone into hiding in other to fish them out.
