Man, 54 detained for defiling 7yrs old girl in Sapele

The incident which occurred on Tuesday afternoon didn’t attract the attention of the victim’s mother until Wednesday following the consistent complains of the child that she is feeling pains in her private part.

Mr Onose, who is said to be married with 6 children, when confronted by the mother of the little girl, Mrs. Onome Ojakovo, allegedly threatened to deal with the her should she drag his name in the mud and subsequently arrested her in order to intimidate and cow her.

The child, a kindergarten 2 pupil who is in critically condition at Central Hospital Sapele, was said to have been playing with two other children while her mother, a neighbour to the suspect was drying cloths outside, but noticed the disappearance of the girl and started looking for her, after about 20 minutes, the child came out from the corner of the suspect house.

Narrating the incident to our correspondent who visited the victim at hospital, Mrs. Ojakovo stated that when her child came out, she didn’t suspect anything, though the child told her that her ‘bombom’ is paining her.

According to her; “when my daughter came out from the corner of Mr Onose’s house, she complained of pains in her ‘bombom’, but I didn’t pay serious attention to it, because I just thought she might have hit her buttocks on the ground will playing, so I ask her to go and wash herself.

“But when she came back from the school the next day and was still complaining of the pains, I decided to check her pubic region properly, what I saw shocked me,  my daughter was bleeding from her private part with her womb coming out.

“Out of shock, I raised alarm which attracted our neighbours, it was then it done on me that my child had been sexually violated. I started crying and I couldn’t imagine who could have done this wicked act to my little child?

“I was then advised to use put salt in a hot water with disinfectant, while I was forcing my daughter outside to sit on the hot water, Mr Onose came out of his compound and was walking to and fro. And when my daughter saw him, she was shocked and pointed to him as the man that injured her.

When I asked her how? She told me that the man called her to the backyard close to the bush, held and covered her mouth, while insight his fingers into her private part and that the man only let her go  when he heard the me calling her, but threatened her not to tell anyone.

Mrs. Ojakovo stated further, “that because it was late she waited until Thursday morning to confront the man, but rather than own up, the man and his wife threatened to deal with her for alleged false allegations, and subsequently arrested her with the police.

“That on getting to the station, the police advised the suspect to go and treat the girl and that they should go home and settle the matter amicably, but instead of doing that Mr. Onose allegedly took them to his mother-in-law’s place at Ojelu area in Sapele, where some  of the his  family members where threatening to beat her up.”

She added that the timely intervention of her sister-in-law, who she called on phone, was what saved her from being beaten, stressing that since they could not resolve, she went back to the police station, and that after police questioned the suspect he was reminded in police custody.

When contacted, the DPO, Police Division Headquarters Sapele, CSP Badaru Musa confirm the incident, stating that the police is still investigating the incident and are waiting for the medical report on the medical examination conducted by the doctors at the central hospital before they could issue any official statement.

According to him, “Yes we are currently investigating the case, but until the medical report on the test conducted on the girl and the suspect we cannot make official statement, but because of the nature of the case, the suspect is currently in detention.”
