Man, 35, stabs a 15-yrs old girl on the neck for rejecting his sexual advances in Asaba

Police in A Division Asaba have arrested one Mr Sunday Asika who hails from Imo State but lives at Infant Jesus region of Asaba, Delta State, for allegedly stabbing Miss Omelagu Chidinma, a 15 years old girl on the neck with a bottle for rejecting his sexual advances.

Advocate.ng gathered that the incident which happed on Wednesday morning at about 11 am after a heavy downpour would have been tragic but for the timely intervention of some of the children in the compound who called the attention of a neighbour who rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Center, Asaba for medical attention.

The attack may not be unconnected to her alleged rejection of sexual advances by the said Mr Asika, who had earlier threatened to deal with the poor girl if she crosses his part, a threat he carried out on a faithful day according to a source who spoke to us in confidence.

Advocate.ng further gathered that Miss Omelagu Chidinma, who hails from Obiaruku, in Ukwuani Local Governor Area, was brutally assaulted by Mr Sunday Asika for allegedly messing up the compound with other children, an action which angered Mr Asika.

An eyewitness who spoke to Comrade Victor Ojei, a lead activist of Young Nigerian Rights Organization on audiotape which was made available to Advocate.ng, said that Chidima was beating up for not answering Asika when he called her.

According to the A 10-years old pupil of Awai primary school, Asaba, (Name Withheld), who was at the scene of the attack, while narrating the incident said:  We were playing a game before outside after the rain stopped, and the man came out asking who scattered the compound, a girl said it was Chidima and another boy who leaves in the compound called Aboy.

“The man was calling Chidima, but Chidima was inside the house making a call, so she didn’t hear when the man called.

“When she came out of the house, the man that stabbed her confronted her, saying that I have been calling you and you refused to answer me.

“Chidima didn’t say anything to the man, rather she picked up a bucket to wash her clothes, then the man attacked her and started beating her, blowing her head, mouth, and other parts of her body, then they both started fighting.

“As they were fighting, they entered the kitchen, an aunty in the compound was shouting at Chidima asking why she is fighting the man.

“Chidima left the man and as she was about to start washing her clothes, again the man came back and started beating her, he went into one of the bathrooms broke a bottle and stab her on the neck, we then rushed out to call a woman that sells around there who rushed Chidima to the Federal Medical Center Asaba,” she added.

Speaking also, the elder sister of the victim, Miss Blessing Omelagu while calling on the authority to ensure that justice is severed, said that her father traveled out of town as at the time the incident happened and that she was called from the market.

According to her, “Actually I was not at home when the incident happened, I went to the market and I received a call from my sister crying, but she couldn’t talk, someone took the phone from her and told me she was stabbed.

When I got home, I saw her bleeding, so we rushed her to the hospital, I only learnt from the children who witnessed the attack that Chidima didn’t do anything to the man before the assault.”

Advocate.ng also gathered that “so far, the poor family has spent N55,000 on the treatment of the victim and will require N5,000 daily for her wound dressing until the wound heals and would be needing help to ensure that the girl completes her treatment,” another source disclosed.
