Lack of tarred roads major problem facing Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic – Prof. Achuenu

Lack of tarred roads has been identified as one of the major problems facing the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.

Disclosing this recently in the ancient Polytechnic town, Prof. Achuenu Emmanuel, the Rector of the Institution said even though there are myriads of other problems such as insecurity, poor power supply, lack of perimeter fencing and others but that lack of tarred roads stands out among them.

Prof.Achuenu said TETFUND had already given their words regarding the perimeter fencing of the school, but hope that such promise see the light of the day just as he appeal to the state government to urgently come to their aid in other areas especially that of road construction while also exploring the partnership between well to do individuals, corporate organisations and other government agencies, especially at the federal level.

On accreditation of courses, he said the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had given their nod for all the courses, and that recently approval was also given for the school to run Urban and Regional Planning and that of Estate Management which is some of the courses in the School of Environmental Science which gigantic block had also been built by TETFUND and that the programme had started in earnest.

The Rector who disclosed this while speaking to some select journalists in the school also reacted to the recent brouhaha of ” no bra no entry” which went viral on the social media when he said ” The decision even though had the blessing of school management was purely the initiative of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the Polytechnic who saw the need that students should dress well and be disciplined and that nakedness should not be condoned in whatever shades.

Prof.Achuenu, a trained builder who disclosed that the Management had a robust and cordial working relationship with staff, students and the host community also did not shy away from admitting that funding is a major challenge in the running of an academic institution but assured that efforts are being made in that regard to get grants which he said is one of the major sources of funding for the institution of higher learning.

The interactive session which culminated with a facility tour took the team to the ICT Centres stocked with 2200 computers for CBT examinations, Engineering Department, Mass Communication Department where the Head of Department (HOD) Dr Emmanuel Akpoveta was on the ground in assisting management to explain some workings in both the Radio and Television studios to the visiting enthusiastic journalists.
