IGP, Delta CP urged to investigate killing of tricycle rider in Delta

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Muhammad Adamu and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr Muhammed Inuwa, have been called upon to investigate the circumstances the death of a tricycle rider, Mr Sylvester Okomedo.

Okomedo a father of three at was allegedly beaten to death by suspected members of the local vigilance outfit in Otokutu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

ADVOCATE gathered that he was reportedly killed on April 8 for allegedly refusing to part with another N50 while exiting Otokutu, having earlier paid the same amount to the vigilance boys who were mounting an illegal roadblock at the entrance of the community.

Witnesses said after the deceased was clubbed with a plank to a pulp, he managed to crawl his way to Otokutu Market Square where he eventually collapsed before he was aided to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.

But an earlier report on social media by one Harrison Gwamnishu had accused operatives of the Delta Police Command of being responsible for the brutality that led to the untimely death of the deceased.

Speaking on the real perpetrators, national president of a Delta-based Foundation for Rights Advocate (FRA), Comrade ‘Tega Shalokpe, said those arrested in connection with the death of the father-of-three, the police were the wrong suspects.

She affirmed that investigations discreetly carried out in the community indicated that one of the local vigilance boys who clubbed Mr Okomedo in the head with a plank, was still walking about freely.

Comrade Shalokpe, therefore, appealed to IGP Adamu and CP Inuwa, to thoroughly investigate the killing and bring the culprit as well as the fake news publisher, who wrongly accused the police of the death, to book.

Meanwhile, CP Inuwa, who acknowledged the arrest of some suspects in connection with the killing on Sunday, promised to dig deeper into the incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.
