Group says no single tenure arrangement in Delta Central Senatorial position

By Ovasa Ogaga,

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, a political pressure group in Delta State, that styles itself as ‘Agege Again Advocates’ (AAA) has debunked the claim in some quarters that there is an existing single tenure arrangement for senator in Delta Central Senatorial district.

Senator Ovie Omo Agege speaking at the meeting

The group challenged anyone with factual evidence of the existence of such arrangement to provide same instead of spreading unsubstantiated rumour aimed at destabilizing and misinforming Urhobo people.

The group made the disclosure while reacting to a statement created to another group, Delta Central Development Initiative Group which urged Olorogun O’tega Emerhor to run for the Delta Central senatorial position because, according to them, there is a one tenure arrangement, therefore, the current Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, shouldn’t seek re-election.

While briefing newsmen on what he described as a “mischievous political claim”, the Co-ordinator of the group, Comr. Enis Ogegere said the public should ignore those spreading unfounded lies and propaganda to promote their secret and parochial agenda.

He that, “Delta Central has not experienced quality representation at the upper chamber until Senator Ovie Omo-Agege came on board, so, it’s totally unbelievable that some group of persons can still be dwelling on frivolities by promoting sentiments in an era inundated with agitations for quality and credible leadership”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to state emphatically that what the Urhobos have lacked before the emergence of our performing and distinguished Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege. And except for the late Senator Pius Ewherido who attempted to change this ugly narrative before death snatched him from us, no other Senator has dared to make the development of Urhobo land his primary responsibility. That has been the reason why the Urhobo electorates were always voting out such retrogressive representatives from getting a second tenure by using the power of their voters’ card.”

“Today, God has blessed us with a renowned Senator, one that listens to the yearnings of his people and has placed the development of our land ahead of every other engagement. While we recognise the right of any qualified Urhobo son and daughter to seek for elective positions, we seriously frown at the warp imagination of some mischievous political deviants conspiring to sell unfounded lies to the public in a bid to force their preferred candidate down the throats of the good people of Urhobo land.

“We see such desperation as a well calculated attempt to return Urhobo to the bad ugly days. Unfortunately for them, the average Urhobo son and daughter are better informed today. We have always agitated and prayed for good representation. Now that we have one in the person of our distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, we shall never be in a hurry to elect another person, who can turn out to be a liability and a minus in the Red Chamber.

“Senator Agege is performing marvelously well. Therefore, all well meaning Urhobo person (home and abroad) want him to continue beyond 2019.”
