Fatal accident claims two lives in Ughelli

A fatal accident that occurred in the early hours of today, Tuesday, around Otovwodo Market, Ughelli, the administrative headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, involving a bus and a vehicle offloading goods has claimed the lives of two young men.

Advocate.ng reports that the bus which belongs to a private school conveying children to school, located at Ekrejebor Community in Ughelli, according to an eyewitness account was responsible for the accident due to failed brakes.

The source explained that the driver, in an attempt to manoeuvre the bus, rammed into the parked vehicle with goods, instantly killing two young men whose identity is yet unknown, offloading the goods, said to be of northern Nigeria origin.

It was also disclosed that one of the pupils inside the school bus sustained serious injuries and had been rushed to the hospital for treatment while those that lost their lives had been carried away from the scene of the accident.

The eyewitness who did not want her name in print said the accident would have been more fatal if the women selling foodstuffs along the road had resumed the day’s business

The incident caused a serious traffic jam along the Ughelli-Patani Express Way and the Otovwodo Road.

As of the time of filing this report, the corpse of the boys and the vehicles had been removed from the scene of the accident.
