Ewu-Urhobo People and their Political suffering in Ughelli South Politics

By Akpovoke Otiti,

Ughelli South local government area comprises of three-axis, namely; Olomu, Ughievwen and Ewu axis. However, the Ewu axis is faced with complex domestic and foreign situations, the now indigenes have little opportunity to exercise influence on governance and policy, this means they are politically irrelevant in Okowa administration.

Otiti lament the gross marginalization of the Ewu people, these are people with three Great Kingdoms; nevertheless, they have been made politically irrelevant in the scheme of things in Delta State and even within its local government. The rest two Axis in Ughelli South enjoys political patronage from the state governor with mouth-watering positions, while the Ewu axis are been discarded with, through the back door system of  Maciver politics.

It is high time the Ewu people expressed their discontent with Governor Okowa who has made them political orphans in the State and LGA, instead of suffering and smiling. It is crystal clear Governor Okowa is anti-Ewu people, during his first tenure, no Sons or daughters of Ewu Axis rose to a good position and this has continued in his 2nd term. The question is, what is really the offence of these people who laboured for you during elections?

The people of Ewu Axis are faced with a complicated conflict-ridden political marginalization situation. This ugly trend is currently causing tensions and unless Governor Okowa and other Ughelli South politicians address the neglect of people of Ewu with the relevant appointment because few of those who were able to secure, SSA, PA etc in the Okowa government see nothing wrong in the what is happening, as they always pray in their home for Okowa at the expense of suffering Ewu people.

Added to this is the social tension caused by the Okowa administration particularly the marginalization of people of Ewu Axis, this is having such a drastic effect on development and growth of the Area. Many people are migrating to the cities in search of training and work.
