The group whose membership are mostly commercial motorcycle riders otherwise known as ‘Okada’ said the call became necessary in order for Omo-Agege to continue with his good works of effective representation and socioeconomic empowerment.

The leaders of the group, Mr. Samuel Izobo, Chairman, Mr. Desmond Owens Secretary, and Mr. Otu-AJ, Spokesman, in a chat with newsmen shortly after a meeting in Ughelli, recently, disclosed that they were moved by Senator Omo-Agege’s kind gesture to their members and this motivated them to set up the group to use it to sensitize and mobilize support for his re-election come 2019.

According to the forum’s Chairman, Mr. Izobo he stated that they did not take empowerment issue serious at first when the senator’s aids met them, to tell them about the Senator’s intention to empower them, and thereafter, the aids took down their names and distributed tickets to them.

“In fact, we thought it is one of those gimmicks that our politicians are fond of playing by deceiving the people and making empty promises which they do not fulfill, so we thought that they were out for same thing”, Izobo said, adding that they were amazed to see Senator Omo-Agege keep to his words.

Continuing, the chairman maintained that “we feel the only way we can reciprocate this good gesture from Senator Omo-Agege is to organise ourselves and come together to form this political forum and use it to work for his re-election come 2019.”

Also, Secretary of the forum, Mr. Desmond Owen who is the eldest son a former Vice Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, hinted that within the short time of the group’s formation, they have been able to spread their dragnet across the whole of Delta Central Senatorial District to mobilize all those who received the Senator Omo-Agege’s empowerment, especially the commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada as well are their relatives, friends and associates into the body.

While reiterating the popular saying that ‘when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice’, Mr. Owen stressed that Sen. Omo-Agege has proved himself to be a dependable politician that has the interests of the people at heart, just as he emphasized that they were aware that if given better chance, he would do greater things and bring succour to the people of Delta Central.

‘We will definitely mobilize across the Delta Central to ensure that, together, we return Sen. Barr. Ovie Omo-Agege to the Senate”, Mr. Owen said, adding that the task of delivering Sen. Omo-Agege would not be difficult as he has already nearly finished the work by his quality representation, vibrancy and empowerment strides.

He therefore called on all Urhobo people to rally round and firmly support the Senator during the present term in the Senate and also endeavour to vote massively for him come 2019 so that he could continue with the good works he is doing.

On his part, the Spokesman, Mr. Wilson Otu-AJ who is from Sapele told the magazine that he has been playing politics for long in Sapele and knows how political empowerment goes, stressing that the politicians either write the names of their wives and children for empowerment right in their bedrooms or selfishly select their close friends.

According to him, he never believed that the move by Sen. Omo-Agege would yield any good fruit, saying “immediately they left after writing our names and giving us tickets at Amukpe Junction where we usually park to wait for passengers, I started telling my friends and others right there that they should forget it and that this is another gimmick to fool us into thinking that Sen. Omo-Agege meant well for the people, after all, ‘no be today yansh dey back’.”

He said, it therefore came to him as a rude shock when the Senator eventually began to fulfill the promise and in order to show appreciation to him, he (Mr. Otu-AJ) began to mobilize people right from Sapele down to Udu including other Local Government Areas in the Delta Central Senatorial District to sensitize the people on why they must support Senator Omo-Agege for second term come 2019.

It would be recalled that only last week, the league of Ughelli market women also urged Senator Omo-Agege to run again for the Senate position come 2019, with a vow to throw their weight solidly behind him.
