The Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, has stated that the development initiatives of the Egbema and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF, will compliment the efforts of the states and federal governments in developing the Niger Delta region.
Usani made this remarks during the commissioning of Azama Zion community Concrete Jetty and Egbema Heritage Guest House built by the EGCDF in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta state, on Sunday, saying that the projects commissioning was the actual execution of the signed GMoU between the NNPC/Chevron joint venture and EGCDF in 2016.
The Minister, represented by Adele-Kalio John, stated that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is also involved in the development process through its membership of the Community Engagement Management Board as well as the Resource, Mobilization and Advocacy Committee.
On his part, Comrade Jude Ukori, Executive Chairman of Egbema and Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, stated that the projects would provide succour to some of the developmental gap as they were executed based on need assessments.
He noted that the projects were completed inspite of the limited resources and harsh economic reality. “So I advised the beneficiaries to guide and maintain them jealously.
While calling on the Federal and state governments’ as well international donor agencies to support their communities that have suffered adverse environmental effects from oil and gas exploration activities, Ukori promised through the EGCDF to attract development to their oil rich but impoverished communities that contributes greatly to the mainstay of the nation’s economy.
