Delta Police boss acknowledges high rate of criminality in Ughelli

Delta State commissioner of police, Mr. Alkali Usman on Thursday acknowledged that there has been a recent upsurge of criminality in Ughelli and environs with a task on security agencies in the area to be alive to their responsibilities in ensuing that the activities of criminals in the area is brought to the barest minimum.

Usman who was briefing newsmen during a parade of 18 suspected armed robbers at the Ughelli Area command, noted that the suspects are made up of 14 armed robbery and kidnap suspect, 4 suspected cultists and it also succeeded in the rescue of 2 kidnap victims at various parts of the Ughelli Area Command

The police boss also stated that 60 rounds of ammunition, 23 cartridges, and 10 different brands of vehicles were recovered from the suspects while 4 of them have been charged to court.

Speaking on the successes recorded so far, Alkali admitted that there has been an upsurge in criminal activities in Ughelli in the past one month adding that the police would continue to do everything within the law in ensuring that criminality is brought to its barest minimum in the command.

Earlier, the police boss in a meeting with the vigilantes urged them to operate within the laws in the discharge of their duties and to work in synergy with the police.
