Delta LG Polls: Governor Oborevwori Champions Gender Inclusion in Politics

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed that when male chairmanship candidates emerge from the local government party primaries, the Vice Chairman must be a woman.
This directive was given during a meeting of leaders, elders, and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta North Senatorial District, held at Orchid Hotel, Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori’s decision to enforce gender balancing in the upcoming local government elections is a significant step towards ensuring that women have an equal voice and representation in the state’s political landscape.
He emphasized the importance of having at least three female councilorship candidates from each local government, to ensure that women have a fair chance to participate in the political process.
The Governor’s directive comes at a time when Nigeria, and the world at large, is increasingly recognizing the importance of gender inclusion in all spheres of life, including politics.
Despite the progress made in recent years, women remain underrepresented in political leadership positions, both nationally and globally.
Governor Oborevwori’s initiative is a step in the right direction to address this imbalance and create a more inclusive political environment in Delta State.
In addition to his efforts to promote gender inclusion, Governor Oborevwori has also been actively working to address other pressing issues in the state.
He has charged the Delta State Civil Service Commission to tackle the ghost worker syndrome and has urged the Delta State Investment and Development Agency (DIDA) to draw up a functional template to attract credible investments to the state.
Furthermore, Governor Oborevwori has acknowledged the state’s potential for sustainable agriculture and food security, highlighting the abundance of arable lands in Delta State for the cultivation of various crops.
He expressed the state’s readiness to partner with the African Development Bank and other stakeholders to establish a Special Agro-processing zone in the state.
Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to gender inclusion and his proactive approach to addressing various challenges in Delta State demonstrate his dedication to the welfare and progress of the people.
As the state prepares for the local government elections, it is hoped that these initiatives will pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future for all residents of Delta State.
