Delta Guber: Ijaws demand control of legislature, drum support for Emerhor

(DELTA-WARRI-By Ovasa  Ogaga—) Ahead of 11 polls, Ijaws in Delta state have declared to support the governorship bid of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in anticipation that his government, if voted in, supports Ijaw’s control of the state assembly.

Grand Patron, Ijaw Youth Counci (IYC), Prince Collins Eselemo express the concern on behalf of Delta Ijaws when he led a delegation of community leaders on a political alignment visit to the Chief Tuesday Onoge led Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in Ekpan, Uvwie council area, Delta state.

He said the wind of change blowing through the emergence of Buhari presidency now transcends APC or any other partisan interest, adding that Delta state cannot afford shy away and not to align mainstream.

He said, “For the governorship, all Delta Ijaws, including those in PDP have realized we can’t afford to play opposition to the APC.  Besides, PDP is offering us deputy governor that is just a spare tire. We need to control and arm of government from May 29.

“Going into the next dispensation, Iteskiri controls the judiciary and Isoko, all of us Delta South, is Secretary to Government. If Okowa becomes governor and Ijaw deputy, without argument, Urhobo (Delta Central) becomes Speaker of the assembly.

“That equation will leave Ijaw hard and dry as mere spectator. With Emerhor governorship and running mate from North, not only is Delta going to align and benefit from most from the center, Ijaws are going to be most qualified in fairness and justice to control the legislature by being speaker which should come from South.”

Eselemor, a 2011 governorship candidate in Delta, added that Emerhor is also the most qualified in personal accomplishment and contribution to the growth of Delta among current candidates for the governorship.

“He was scored distinctions and won marry laurels through primary and university education. He is a world class financial expert and entrepreneur and he is so detribalised. I can name quite a handful of young, high flying Ijaw bankers at the moment who were first employed in the industry by Emerhor”, he added.

He said the Ijaws were fully mobilized to vote en-mass for Emerhor and all APC assembly candidates come Saturday, charging the Urhobo where Emerhor hails from not to let other zones down by mending fences and ensuring that Urhobo with their majority votes presents and support only Emerhor for the governorship.
