Commuters stranded for hours as truck rammed into bus at Umutu

At least 18 passengers escaped death in an accident involving a truck and bus left many commuter stranded for several hours Friday along the buys Abraka-Agbor road at Umutu, before the Ethiope river, in Ukwanin local government area.

The trucked blocked the Abraka-Agbor road causing grim-lock along the road at Umutu end.

The truck loaded with bags of semovita with registration number, Anambra AAH 14XA, crashed into the bus with 18 passengers including a two months old baby at the foot of the bridge.

According to an eyewitness who gave her name as Miss Nkachi, told Advocate  that the truck was on top speed and that the bus driver was very careless.

“The bus driver packed to pick up a passenger and without looking  at his side mirror entered the road thinking that the trailer driver will slow down.

“And because the trailer was on high speed, it rammed into the bus and fell in process blocking the road, leaving many commuter stranded.

Though there was no casualties, many of passengers who sustain injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital.

A two month baby who was covered by bags of semovita was however rescued unhurt.

Effort by well spirited individual to pull the truck from the road has not yielded any results as at the time our correspondent left the scene.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC who came to the sense about two hours after the accident could not do anything to help the situation, because there patrol van could not pull the truck out of the road.
