Making the disclosure, a member of the NWC who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that the meeting is specifically convened to take decisions on the report of the disciplinary committee in respect of the Okpozo led Elders and Leaders group who purportedly set up an illegal parallel State Exco in Delta following recommendation by the State executive disciplinary committee.

The Delta Exco disciplinary committee, it is learnt recommended expulsion from the party for the confirmation of the NWC, and other disciplinary measure to serve as deterrent to other disgruntled elements in the party.

The meeting is coming just as the national chairman of the party in a last minute move, has reached out to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu to suspend his planned October 22 meeting with some stakeholders of the party, the same day the State executive of the party is having an expanded Exco meeting.

The APC in Delta State has been enmeshed in leadership tussle between Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and a group of party members loyal to second republic politician, Senator Francis Okpozo. The matter got complicated with the entry of Chief Great Ogboru of Labour Party and Hon Victor Ochei and their followers. The scheming by these different interest groups on who controls the soul of the party are further fueling the crisis.
