By Russia Omene,

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta State, Chief Ighoyeta Amori has declared his intention to run for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2019 elections, promising not to give the Urhobos effective representation if given the mandate.

Amori stated this while addressing PDP faithful from Delta Central, at his country home in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area, noted that the Urhobo nation will not regret giving him their mandate.

According to him; “You know what I can do, give me this mandate, and you will never regret it”. He said.

While thanking his supporters for keeping faith with him since he was removed from the Senate by the Court of Appeal, he added that though the incident gave him setback, he was however strengthened by it.

The PDP chieftain said while he was at the senate, he gave the people of Delta Central good representation by doing all that a senator is required to do, even in the heat of the litigation against his election at the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

He stated further that the Urhobo nation is currently under represented at the national level, noting that Urhobo needs a strong voice to liberate them, and protect the Urhobo interest at the national level.

“I am seeking to liberate my people from under-performing leadership. Urhobo must stand again; Delta Central must have a voice in the National Assembly”.

“I am not seeking for power; I am seeking for opportunity to serve you.”

“Give me the platform and I will change the world; give me your support and I will raise Urhobo Nation Stake to an enviable proportion at the National Assembly; Give me your votes and I will attract development and substantial dividends of democracy to Delta Central and the state.

“I am overwhelmed by your massive and huge support. I am extremely humbled by your kind words and love for me and my family. Urhobo Nation will rise again especially now that our National Leader, His Excellency Chief James Onanefe Ibori is back home safe and sound.

“I accept your kind proposal, instructing me to go back to the Senate for the good of our people in Delta Central and Senate I must return come 2019.

Earlier Chairman of the event, Chief Bernard Edewor said the leaders and good people of Delta Central are united for Amori, adding that the 2015 stolen mandate must be recovered.

According to him; “those parading themselves as senator and senatorial aspirants other than our amiable leader, Chief  Ighoyota Amori are political jesters and do not represent the interest of Urhobo Nation and the good people of Delta Central.

“Amori is Urhobo Nation’s consensus candidate for Delta Central Senatorial slot in 2019. Any other PDP member or true son or daughter of Urhobo Nation working against our collective majority decision does so at his or her risk. Amori is our choice.

“APC is alien to us in Delta State. There is no APC here. PDP is our party,” Edewor added.

Amori also used the event to appoint members of his campaign team, which he says will be expanded later; the team is led by Barr. Moses Odibo – Director General, Dr Chris Oharisi – Secretary; Chief Mrs Faith Majemite – Director, Women Mobilization; Dr Emeka Tadiodi – Deputy Director, Women Mobilization; Barr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe – Director, Media & Publicity and Mr Felix Ekwu – Deputy Director, Media & Publicity.
