The Police in Delta State has confirmed the arrest of one Rukevwe Matthew, 37, who was alleged to have raped a 14 years old girl, Ejiro Iyedo who was earlier detained by the police, and the hotel manager in Sapele, Delta State, where the teenager was reportedly raped.

Recall that ADVOCATE had exclusively reported on Sunday that Police in Sapele, detained one Miss Ejiro, a 14 year-old-girl rape victim who was lured to hotel allegedly raped repeatedly dumped at a private hospital by Mr Rukevwe Matthew.

Our investigations revealed that the victim mother had gone to the Sapele Police Station to report a case of rape against Rukevwe, but rather than arresting him, the police turned around to arrest the victim, Ejiro, a Senior Secondary School 1 student of a private school in Sapele.

According to our source the teenager was allegedly lured to a hotel at the Adegor off Adeniyi road area of the town by Rukevwe on June 17, 2020, where she was alleged to have been repeatedly raped by Rukevwe and was later rushed to a private clinic along Atufe road when he found out, “she was bleeding and reportedly left her there.”

The source added, “Rukevwe took her to the hospital, paid an advance for her treatment and abandoned her there and it was her parents who paid the balance of the hospital bills and reported the case to the Police”

The police invited Rukevwe to the station but after intervention by a powerful politician in the town, “the next thing we knew was that Ejiro was arrested by the police and kept behind bars, rather than the suspect, and as we speak, the girl is still in the cell at the Sapele police station.”

However, following ADVOCATE report on Sunday and the public outcry that it generated, the police authority hurriedly released the poor girl to her mother a few hours later.

Meanwhile, the police were said to have arrested Rukevwe and the hotel manager, where the rape was reported to have taken place on Monday morning after Ejiro was released and have been kept in police detention, after our publication.

Confirming the arrest of the two suspects, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowhakpoyeya told our correspondent that the two persons are in detention and they have made useful statement to the police.
