Ahwinawhi defeats Talib Tebite, 2 others to win PDP House of Reps ticket

A Two-term former House of Representatives member, Chief Solomon Ahwinawhi has won the rescheduled Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primary election for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency.

Ahwinawhi scored 80 votes beating Talib Tebite who scored 3 votes while Julius Efeni Akpovoka and Eunice Okoh pooled one vote respectively in an election that was conducted at the Ughelli township stadium in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Recalled that the Primary election was on May 22 held where Hon. Talib Tebite pooled 34 votes to beat other contestants, which include Solomon Ahwinawhi who got 30 votes, while Mariere got 26 votes.

Advocate.ng gathered the rerun was at instant Chief Solomon Ahwinawhi who allegedly petitioned the Appeal Committee requesting for a fresh primary following an alleged breach of the party’s guideline when it was first conducted.

When asked by Journalists while the earlier primary was cancelled, the Returning Officer, Prof Collins refer journalists to the PDP leadership at the National level.

Declaring Ahwinawhi winner, Prof Collins Okafor who represented the national chairman of the panel said, “I have the privileged to announce this result, a total number of delegates are 99 were expected to vote, however, only 87 were accredited to vote.

“Talib Tebite scored 3 votes, Eunice Okoh 1 vote, Akpovoka Efeni 1 vote while Solomon Ahwinawhi scored 80 and he is hereby declared the winner.

Reacting after declaring him the winner, Ahwinawhi said, “I want to thank those who stepped down for me and for the benefit of the party, saying, it is not that they are not credible but they want the party to forge ahead.

He said, “I have not won any primaries and lost the general election and as a former two-term member of the house, I will not let my people down”.
