10 persons feared dead, 35 rescued, many trapped as Church collapses in Delta

Ten worshipers feared dead when one-storey building housing the Salvation Ministries, along Okpanam Road, Asaba, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State, today collapsed, and trapping many church members.

It was further gathered that following the rescues efforts, over 35 persons, including children, women and men were rescued unhurt, while four persons have been rushed to the Asaba Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

The building, whose original design was tempered with reconstruction ongoing caved in during church service at about 5:55 p.m.

The building, which is over 10 years was initially designed as a plaza before the church bought it at N300 million, adding that the one storey building was being reconstructed by the Church.

The Church which is being used for the first time, Advocate.ng also gathered that reconstruction work was ongoing without recourse to the original strength of the foundation of the structure.

According to Vanguard reports, as of the time of filing this report, Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah; the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi, a team of Red Cross officers, and firefighters were on ground on a rescue mission.

With rescue operations ongoing, worshippers, family members and sympathisers were seen crying.
