Urhobo group charges Buhari to stop playing politics with NDDC

A Niger-Delta group that styles itself as Campaign for the Economic Survival of Urhobo Nation (CATESUN) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop playing politics with the constitution of a new board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and appoint a substantive board that that will run the affairs of the commission.

CATESUN in a communiqué signed by its National President, Olorogun Ese Kakor, stated that NDDC is too large and sensitive to be administered by a sole administrator, hence the need for a substantive board.

CATESUN insists that there is no such provision in the Act establishing the commission that a sole administrator should be appointed to manage its affairs.

According to the statement, Niger Deltans, especially the Urhobo people expects the Niger Delta Development Commission to take care of infrastructural and other development deficit as such cannot allow one man to run the affairs of such interventionist agency.

“There are qualified indigenes of the states which NDDC covers who can perform creditably well in every one of the sub-ministries in the NDDC Board.

“We wonder why President Muhammadu Buhari led administration had continued to run the NDDC that meant so much to us with illegal committees and sole administrator”, it added.

They reiterated that President Muhammadu Buhari should as a matter of urgency constitute a substantive board to run the affairs of the NDDC for all-round development of the host states.
