Udu burns over the killing of Okada-man; police shifts blame, say it’s the vigilante

Police authority in Delta State has said that the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as ‘Okada man’  in Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area, of which has set the community on fire was done by the vigilante and not the police.

The incident has sparked serious tension in the area as angry residence and passers-by had to unleash their anger by burning down the patrol vehicle belonging to the Area Command, Burutu.

Advocate.ng gathered that as of the time of the incident, the police patrol team were with some members of the local vigilante, whom our source at the scene of the incidents said that the vigilante normally collects “Rogers”, bribe money from the Okada riders on behalf of the police.

It was further gathered that, all members of the Police team that allegedly shot dead the Okada rider was said to have fled into the bush to save their lives, while the corpse of the Okada man was still lying on the floor.

It also gathered that the patrol van of the police team was allegedly set ablaze by an angry mob, while some soldiers were said to have arrived at the scene to return normalcy as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the report, when contacted on phone, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said that the unfortunate incident didn’t involve the police, adding that police only happened to be at the scene of the incident at that material time.

According to him, “the whole thing is phoney, because the person on the ground who called me first, made it very clear that it was the vigilante that shot that man, so I  don’t that know why the police are now being mentioned.

When asked what the police van and men doing at the spot at the time of the incident, Mr Edafe has this to say, “It was the vigilante that shot, coincidentally the police were close to the scene of the incident at that time, even the vigilante that shot the man was beaten to a pulp,” he added.
