Traffic, environmental offenders in Uwie now risks three months jail term

Traffic and environment law breakers within Uvwie local government area of Delta state, now stand the risk of being sentenced to a three months jail term or payment of minimum N50, 000 fine.

This, according to the Chairman, Uvwie LGA Task Force on Environment and Traffic Control, Mr. Isaac Tobi, approval has been given for the establishment of a mobile court to try defaulters.

He pointed some of the potential victims of the new law to include traders that deposit refuse in the median along PTI Road, Effurun Market, those displaying their wares and other products along the same road and market and those disposing refuse indiscriminately in the local government area.

Tobi further re-emphasized that the mandate given to the task force was to drastically reduce traffic congestion in Uvwie and to ensure a cleaner environment in the area.

He advised indigenes and residents in the council area to abide by the laws of the council which according to him was for the greater benefit of all, adding that no one caught wanting would be spared.
