PDP chieftain berates former Delta Attorney General’s indiscreet statement over wife’s divorce

By Akpos Oghentega,

A former Attorney General of Delta State has received bashing over his use of the indiscreet term “disgruntled politicians” to describe perceived political distractors in a statement he issued to announced his divorce from his estranged wife.

Recall that AG, in a press release issued on Monday, August 9, 2021, announcing his decision to end his marriage, had referenced what he said was a rumour that a woman was pregnant with his baby.

According to him, “the allegation is false and a satanic agenda to destroy his hard-earned reputation as no person is pregnant for him or has a child for him as falsely alleged by a desperate group of disgruntled politicians and enemies”.

Reacting to the derogatory statement, a grassroots mobilizer and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ukwuani Local Government Area, Hon Gregory Edirin, said while the former Attorney General’s wife seemed to have been silent on the press statement, those he referred to as “disgruntled politicians” had taken exception to that.

Hon Edirin said it was unfortunate that the former Attorney General chose to refer to some politicians as disgruntled, stressing that those he alleged were linked to the said rumour were persons who had made their names in politics, governance and business.

He maintained that it was laughable that the former Attorney General talked about his ‘hard-earned reputation’ in the press statement when he had none, pointing out that his past relationships and social life had nothing particularly good to talk about.

The grassroots mobilizer noted that it took the efforts of PDP leaders in the former AG’s LGA and the goodwill of his wife to make him two – time Commissioner, but regretted that he had negatively impacted PDP in his area, causing disunity among party members and leaders, which had led to some party faithful defecting to other political parties.

While saying that the former Attorney General was a questionable character, Hon Edirin accused him of inconsistency and deceit, explaining that his claim that he divorced his wife since July last year was not true because the woman accompanied him to Abuja in December 2020 for his SAN investiture.
