The Chairman who was represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, (SLG) Mr. Felix Oderohwo, said going by the high inflation and scarce resources at government disposal, it was difficult to meet up with all developmental needs of the people.
He noted that there was a need for people to give back to their community, through personal contributions to complement government developmental efforts
“I want to appreciate the people of Ophori Community, the President General and his cabinet for having this mindset of completing the health center in order to save our people from going too far before accessing health facilities. This Government is highly appreciative of this gesture.
“It is a good thing if every Community leader can emulate the gesture of Ophori Community leaders. Because by doing this, you would have made the work easy for Government,” he added.
The council chairman urged the leadership of the community and the people to protect the health facility and the equipment, as well as the workers posted to the health center.
The Executive Secretary to the Ughelli North Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Johnson Uyovwiesevwa, who was represented by the Director of Nursing, Mrs. Felicia Anenene, solicited the cooperation of the community to ensure that the health center remained functional by patronizing it.
Dr Uyovwiesevwa disclosed that the health center was for the treatment of minor illnesses, pregnant women, immunization, and treatment of the elderly, just as he added that the treatment would not be totally free but for immunization, family planning, and worm expeller.
To improve activities of the PHC, Dr Uyovwiesevwa urged community leaders to sponsor free health treatment and also set up a village health committee, (VHC), to oversee the operation of the health center and report progress and challenges to the appropriate quarters.
