NUJ decorates Agbon Monarch as patron

The Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Sapele Correspondent Chapel, Delta State has decorated the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Mike Omeru Ogurimerime, Ukori 1 as a Patron of the union.

The event which took place on Monday, August 16, 2021, in the palace of the monarch in Isiokolo, the traditional headquarters of the Agbon people was done on a low key in line with COVID-19 guidelines and Protocols.

His Royal Majesty, Ukori 1 the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom while making his acceptance speech noted that he considers the Patronship of NUJ Sapele Correspondent Chapel as an honour well placed because Journalism is his first love and calling, right from his hey days in the secondary school at St Kelvin College, Kokori where he was an active Press Club Member as a little Journalist.

The Monarch also disclosed that he is a Member of the National Institute of Public Relation (NIPR) which is a relevant tentacle of Journalism as a discipline.

He further emphasized that the NUJ Patronship was a Journey back home into his own Constituency, “For a very long time l was a member of Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria, (NPAN).

“l had a registered advertisement Company, which I used many years in carrying out an advertisement in National Newspaper, so NUJ making me a Patron is an honour not misplaced.”

The Agbon Royal Father stated that he had a column in the Nigeria Observer in the old Bendel State where he commented on topical issues of State and National interest because of his love for Journalism.

The Royal Father who Promised to play his fatherly role to NUJ as a Patron any time there is a duty call thanked the leadership of NUJ, Delta Chapter led by Comrade Mike Ikeogwu and the Sapele Chapel led by Comrade Godwin Oghre for the Pen Profession honour bestowed upon him.

Comrade Nelson Agbajor, the Secretary of the Sapele Correspondent Chapel, earlier in a brief speech shortly before the decoration and presentation of the Certificate told the Agbon Royal Father, Ukori 1 that the Union chose to honour him as a Patron after they have carefully followed his activities and found him worthy for the Post having proven his mettle as a First Class Royal Father with enormous and monumental contributions towards our nation-building effort in Agbon kingdom in particular and Delta State in general.

Comrade Agbajor, the Sapele, NUJ scribe while pledging the commitment of the Chapel to the Palace for fair, objective, balanced and accurate news reportage noted that the Patronship of Ukori 1 will foster better relationship between the Monarch and all Journalists across board as a father to the Sapele Correspondent Chapel.

Mrs Stephanie Ekanone Odiete, the Assistant Secretary flanked by other members of Exco amidst pomp and pageantry presented the certificate of Patronship to the Agbon Monarch, who later took a group photograph with members of the Union present.
