Hundreds of protesters of Northern extraction, today, took to the streets of Sapele, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, to protest the alleged killing of one of their kinsman by a local vigilante.
It was gathered that the victim, Moses Ishaku, who is 25 and a tailor, was killed on Monday night, after he ran into the Vigilante men who had mounted a road block at the Olympia area of the town.
Advocate.ng gathered that, Ishaku had gone to see a friend along Abeke road, using one of his friend’s motorcycle and was heading home at about 11pm when he ran into the vigilante men who had mounted a road block at the Olympia area of the town. Adding that on seeing them, he tried to flee but one of the vigilante hit him with a wood and he died instantly.
The Vigilantes, who were said to be five, quickly carried the corpse inside a Keke and drove off towards new road area of the town.
The Protesters wielding woods, Cutlass, leaves and brooms took to the streets of the town as early as 8am but the Sapele Divisional Police Officer, Harrison Nwabuisi was said to have appealed to them, that the police will make sure justice is done.
It was later gathered from the police that they have arrested the local vigilante who allegedly committed the crime.
Though the Delta State Police Spokesman, Edafe Bright could not be reached as his mobile line is not connecting, but a security source who craved anonymity told Advocate.ng that the Vigilante was arrested last night after the report came midnight.
