Group faults report of APC senators’ intimidating Okowa’s aides with anti-graft agencies ahead of 2023

By Akpos Oghenetega
A political group, Progressives Movement for Democratic Change, has faulted the claims by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that some senators of the All Progressive Congress have hatched a plot to use anti-graft agencies to intimidate Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s men.

The group which was reacting to a publication in an online medium, describes the purported alarm raised by the PDP, as a story planted by a jittery governor ahead of 2023, adding that the party was hunted by its own shadow.

The group in a statement signed by its Director of Media, Mr. Vincent Hitler, alleged that the PDP under Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was a corrupt entity that has made corruption a state policy, adding it was the reason behind the panic mood within its circle.

The statement reads in part, “We believe that the mass defections hitting the PDP in the State has created serious panic in the government which has now decided to sell a dummy that aides of the governor and PDP members are being hounded by the EFCC and the ICPC respectively which is a diversionary tactic from the monumental corruption that has pervaded the Owa-Alero ethnic administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

“We challenge the Okowa PDP administration to come clean with its activities and publish the audited financial records of the State government since the over six years in the saddle of governance if it has nothing to hide instead of raising false alarm occasioned by fear of its many atrocities committed against the State.

“The Deputy President of the Senate and the Senator representing Delta North are preoccupied with important National assignments for the betterment of their constituents and Deltans in general, therefore, they do not have time to chase after Okowa’s Aides who are most insignificant as indicated in the said report.

“We advise the Okowa led PDP administration to respond to an invitation extended to it by the nation’s anti-graft agencies if any and stop chasing shadows over 2023 gubernatorial contest now being weaponized as if, Delta State belongs to the Owa-Alero ethnic Governor which has destroyed the State beyond near redemption.”

The group who further queried the rationale behind the news report noted that it could only attest to the fact that the PDP government and its agents have something to hide hence becoming alarmist to divert attention from their misdemeanors.

“We want to advise the PDP to leave the APC leaders alone to concentrate on the task for which, they were elected and put its sinking and corruption infested house together as no amount of mudslinging will stop the determination of the electorates from sending the PDP packing from government house Asaba come 2023,” it stated.

They urged Deltans not to be swayed by the antics of alarmists in a government desperate to cover its corrupt tracks.
