The Edo State Chapter of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), at its Music Stakeholders meeting in Benin City recently adopted a motion establishing working relationship with Music Copyrights Society of Nigeria (MCSN).
This is sequel to a directive from the National Headquarters of PMAN, Lagos, to Edo PMAN governor, Comrade Willy Eghe Nova, to synergize with MCSN in the effort to deal with the issue of copyrights theft in the state.
In his remarks, Comrade Eghe Nova said that PMAN has resolved to take drastic steps to address the rising cases of music piracy in Edo state urging all copyrights owners to give maximum support to the PMAN and MCSN joint Enforcement team in the new war against copyright theft.
He also advised them to obtain or renew their PMAN identity cards as a matter of urgency to avoid embarrassment.
On his part, the coordinator of MCSN in Edo and Delta States, Prince Biodun Eguakhide, who said that the step was a landmark achievement for both MCSN and PMAN noted that intellectual property theft is a huge crime before the law and must be stopped.
While saying that many music artiste don’t get hired but somebody somewhere plays his music somewhere without permission, Prince Eguakhide called on the intellectual property owners to protect their materials by belonging to a government recognised body that can fight their course.
He stressed that everyone has the right to do business but not at the detriment of other maintaining that PMAN members should support MCSN to deal with copyright infringement.
The meeting which was presided over by Comrade Eghe Nova witnessed a heavy presence of musicians, DJs, cultural artistes and music producers from Edo South, Edo North and Edo Central Zones; Akaba man, Mrs Palmer Omoruyi, Uncle One Blow, Danikoko, Benson Paul-Airen, Mrs Iyamu, Sunny Obasuyi, Benson Hala, Mochico Bay, Princess Light Alile, Philip Agbonlahor, Sister Oghogho Iyamu, Lucky Boy, Ms, Biggy and many other music superstars.
