The PDP Chairman also advised aspirants under the party’s platform to pursue their aspiration with a brotherly mindset towards others, maintaining that the party in the state remains one indivisible family.

He declared that there would be no imposition of candidates on the party, promising that the party would conduct a free and fair primary to select her governorship candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

Speaking earlier, the leading aspirant for the 2023 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket, Chief Kenneth Gbagi cautioned Urhobos against making infuriating statements towards other ethnic nationalities agitating for the governorship seat in the State.

He maintained that Urhobo must partner with other ethnic nationality to clinch the governorship seat, noting also that, making such statements against other ethnic nationalities would only heat up the polity and work against the interest of the Urhobos.

He said; “We have come here today not just on a visit to the chairman of the PDP who is the head of the party in the state but to show respect and honour to whom honour is due.

“I know you must have been hearing rumours about one or two things, but we have come today to officially inform you of my ambition and to seek your clearance and blessings to run for the party’s flag which by the grace of God you will give to me.

“Three of us, James Ibori, who is our, leader, Prof. Oyovwaire and myself, founding members of the party from this end, started the move for Urhobo governor in 1998. Today I am the oldest member of the party vying for the position of governorship in the state.

“I pride myself as a man without blemish, an industrialist who can take the state to the next level from the great work the governor has done and is still doing. To tell you I am very serious, I have engaged the youths and today I have a database of the youths in this state. So I know what it takes to win an election in Delta state.

“We have a governor today whose word is like from God. I have been here since the beginning and have met with all the governors, but I can tell you that governor Okowa is the most honest of all the governors. If he tells you anything, take it as it is, it’s the truth.

“I know for a man like him, he would not want just anybody to succeed him but someone with the capacity to build from where he has left, someone that will work for all Deltans

“I have heard about the agitation from other ethnic groups for the governorship position, but what I can assure you as a founding member of the PDP in the state, is that the governorship will come to Urhobo. When the time comes, the boys will be separated from the men.

“Urhobo must partner with other groups and shun making infuriating statements that are capable of heating the polity.

“We must continue to respect and honour our party chairman because we cannot have two chairmen and we must also continue to support our governor to continue to move the state forward.”
